CONNECTING STUDENTS TO GREAT PAYING JOBS
This week on “Get Real With Rick Dancer” we’re going to introduce you to a new program that could help bridge the gap for local students living in poverty.
It’s hard to believe but statistics show 53% of students in Lane County live in poverty. Breaking the cycle is not easy but members of the Technology Association of Oregon may be onto something big.
MEET THE COMPANIES OF TAO
This week we’re going to introduce you to three different high Tech businesses in the area and explain how a new program could be game changer when it comes to connecting these students with a local career that pays on average $74,000 a year.
Right now local teachers need more training in computer science to prepare students for these high tech jobs. So the Technology Association of Oregon is going to offer paid internships this summer to teachers.
“By giving high school teachers the hours they need with industry leaders they will become ‘CTE Endorsed’ to teach Computer Science, these teachers can then create new courses at local high schools in the Fall of 2017.”
High Tech is a huge industry in Lane County and with a growing fiber network and other changes currently underway the industry is going to be huge for the future.
We (Rick Dancer Media Services) recently joined the growing number of companies involved in TAO because we see these jobs and the lifestyle the industry supports and promotes as something we can get behind.
