Wicked Is Good

It’s unnerving as you sit in the theatre watching the movie “Wicked” how much it reflects what’s going on, metaphorically, in our nation right now.
I highly recommend this musical.
The storyline is great, the acting and singing really good, I’m not a big fan of the songs. Only one of them really sticks out for me but that’s just personal taste. I found the film funny, touching and it’s premise frightening.
The film tells the story of Glenda the “Good” witch and “The Wicked” witch, prior to the Wizard of Oz show we are so familiar with.
Spoiler Alert: The Wizard is the guy behind the curtain, pulling the strings, controlling the people through sorcery and fear.
He needs the witch, who turns out to be labeled wicked, to gain that control but she refuses, bucks the system and is slandered as “wicked” for not going along.
At one point the Wizard says something to the effect of if you want the people’s attention and loyalty you must find someone for them to hate.
WTF?
In modern terms, if you want to control people you single out the groups and individuals who do not buy into your BS and make them “Wicked” while those who “buy in” become “Good.”
Does any of this sound familiar? It should. I can think of many examples and it’s still happening today.
The alleged “Wicked Witch” finds her true power as persecution intensifies. Her friends turn on her, they choose the more traveled, safe, virtuous path of cultural follower and the movie ends with “Glenda the good witch” siding with the controllers and the alleged wicked witch riding off into the sunset, victorious in her attempt to stay true to the truth, but you know the next film is gonna get ugly.
How easily the wizards behind the curtain manipulate people.
They find those who are easily swayed, easily manipulated and they target someone they will easily hate.
You harp on that person for years.
You lie and convince your followers good is evil and evil is good.
And if anyone stands in your way, you put them in the same camp as the “Wicked Witch” and the rest of current history.
Wicked the movie, couldn’t have come out at a better time. A time when like the wicked witch of the west, we as a nation are being asked to make choices. Do we accept what is evil and try to make it good or do we say enough, say what you want about us, we refuse to bend a knee to the wizards behind the curtain.
The story continues……..
