We live in a culture that seems to have little resilience.
Hard times build solid, tough, hearty people.
But few of us welcome difficulty and instead shy away from adversity rather than heading into it full force.
The result is weakness.
We expect our live to be good and easy.
In my years covering the news in Western Oregon I learned no one with a success story got to that point without failure and great difficulty.
Oh and you have to be a risk taker.
When you workout, building muscle means first tearing it down.
You listen to your body and pay attention to the pain but as your muscles start to grow you learn, discomfort is what takes you closer to your goals.
Life is like that too.
Perhaps rather than looking for a comfortable life it’s time we as American’s seek a more resilient life?
When times get tough don’t gaze downward but instead look up, buckle down and say to yourself, this too shall pass but I’m going to learn everything I can while I have the chance.
