We Need To Come Up With A New Word

The word hate is overused.
It seems if someone disagrees with you, it’s Hate.
If they have an opinion that doesn’t line up with yours it’s called Hate.
When we as humans get lazy and can’t come up with a good argument or just a reason we believe what we believe, we scream Hate.
Perhaps it’s time we make the use of the word hate a hate crime. (I’m kidding but you get my point).
What is hate?
I looked it up: intense hostility and aversion usually deriving from fear, anger, or sense of injury.
Now, that sounds familiar doesn’t it.
So if I agree with Trump on a certain issue and voice that support, how does that make me hateful?
Actually, the person screaming “hater” at me would fit the definition better than me.
If I think DOGE, uncovering waste is a good thing, why is that hate?I guess you could stretch it and say I hate when the federal government sneaks behind my back and uses my money for things I don’t agree with. But is that really hate or is it being wise?
I guess someone might think I hate federal employees because some will lose their jobs as waste is found and the need for those jobs isn’t there, but is that really hate or common sense. If you have a budget that’s out of whack and too many people being paid when we don’t need all of them, is that hate?
Oh, and just because you disagree with me and don’t like my way of thinking, why, in your mind does that automatically fall under the hate label? It doesn’t.
I hear many claim to seek unity but continue to throw out the hate word every time we disagree. Maybe we should give the hate word a rest. Hey, I have an idea, what if rather than calling people any name, we ask more questions and look for something we can agree on? It’s just an idea and I know at this point in our national conversation a crazy one, but it might just work.
We saw the movie “I’m Still Here” last night. It’s a true story of the political turmoil of the 70’s in Brazil. The government was wrongfully jailing political opponents and killing them. It reminded me of the last four years, not that people were being killed but they were being wrongfully dragged through court, put in jail and their lives destroyed. Now, you may have a different opinion of what happened and that’s fine. But that’s not hate until you get to a point of “:intense hostility and aversion usually deriving from fear, anger, or sense of injury.”….hate. Remember, it is my opinion and in no way am I threatening anyone because we disagree….that’s on you.
I need to remind myself the next time hate tries to slip off my tongue or fingertip, to think a moment, what is it that really bothers me right now?
It’s not hate but perhaps my lack of finding the proper word to describe my feelings.
It might simply be we disagree and that threatens my sense of security which can lead to anger…..we can stop it before it gets there can’t we?
