Starting Over: You Really Can
The song “Starting Over” is becoming the theme of our life.
We’d never heard it until we already stepped out and onto this journey from Oregon to Montana.
As we head into a weekend of celebrating our Freedom, I share these thoughts with you today.
There is nothing more stifling than for a human being than to be trapped.
“Well the road rolls out like a welcome mat
To a better place than the one we're at
And I ain't got no kinda plan
But I've had all of this town I can stand”
We each get moments when the light turns green and you can choose to accelerate or shift into low gear.
Test the waters, sure its choppy and cold but you can always get out. But you don’t want to miss your jump either.
“And I got friends out on the coast
We can jump in the water and see what floats”
The timing will never be perfect.
Waiting for perfect is just an excuse to tread water rather than swim.
“We've been saving for a rainy day
Let's beat the storm and be on our way”
Not everyone is called to pack up, sell your house and move one thousand miles away to what might as well be an island.
But if you are called but fear the storm, you will miss out.
“And it don't matter to me
Wherever we are is where I wanna be
And Honey, for once in our life
Let's take our chances and roll the dice
I can be your lucky penny, you can be my four-leaf clover
Starting over”
If you knew at the beginning what it would take to get here you probably wouldn’t go.
Ignorance can be a gift and dreaming a map to the unknown.
It’s not gonna be easy, but easy is no fun.
Easy leads to boredom and boredom to spiritual death.
The soul longs for adventure, so feed it.
“This might not be an easy time
There's rivers to cross and hills to climb
Some days we might fall apart
And some nights might feel cold and dark”
We’ve had our share of cold, dark nights where your restless spirit tosses and stirs and wonders did we do the right thing?
“But nobody wins afraid of losing
And the hard roads are the ones worth choosing
Some days we'll look back and smile
And know it was worth every mile”
Starting over doesn’t have to mean moving away but it does mean leaving things behind.
Maybe for you its an attitude, a lie you’ve told yourself for years or a past you just can’t seem to shake.
Find someone brave enough to walk beside you.
Listen the one who created you.
And as you look over the cliff and hear Him say “now, go!” don’t worry about where you land, jump.
“It don't matter to me
Wherever we are is where I wanna be
And Honey, for once in our life
Let's take our chances and roll the dice
I can be your lucky penny, you can be my four-leaf clover
Starting over”
