Rick, Let's Go To Lunch

“Rick, Let’s Go To Lunch”

What do you do when God invites you to lunch?

We went to church for the first time in, what, 30 years and the message was deep, really deep.

You know how I like digging deep.

Anyway, the speaker was talking about how we should treat God as though we are sitting down to have a conversation.

We should ask him all the hard questions no one else will answer.

And don’t make those questions about you….all the time.

You know, what’s my future, what do you want me to do, stuff like that. There’s a time and a place for those questions but God isn’t our fairy godmother and I imagine, sometimes would just like to have a real conversation.

Instead just talk with him and find out what He wants.

It’s almost like you and me sitting down for coffee and me asking questions but listening for a change.

I bet God tires of all the lunch talks that are all about us trying to figure out what we want rather than what he wants. You’ve had those lunches where the guest always talks about themselves? Yeh, those people.

Oh, God is love so I don’t think He gets irritated with our selfishness. He created us and knows our tendencies but how refreshing it would be if we went to lunch with God and it was all about what He wants and nothing about what we need.

Years ago I had a vision of me sitting with Jesus and just talking. I had no motive, no needs, no mission.

It was just the two of us sitting there.

I asked a lot of questions and He just listened.

It was obviously memorable.

For me, that’s Heaven.

I don’t need harps, angels or golden streets. If that’s all there I’m good it’s not like I’m going to criticize God’s idea of Heaven.

But I see Heaven more as a mountain peak, a beach, a roaring ocean or a sunset.

Me and God/Jesus and the Holy Spirit just talking about the creation and that includes you and me.

I think God’s lunch invitation is for all of us.

He’ll pick up the bill.

He’s not cheap like a lot of Christians.

(Did you know waiters and waitresses say the worst tippers are church people on Sunday mornings?)

But for once, go without a motive and just ask questions and listen.
