There Is More To Life Than Playing It Safe

Someone recently told me you can’t be safe and free at the same time.
It was one of those moments I felt like standing up and cheering.
If you listen to the ads on the radio or television it’s all about being safe.
I’m okay with seatbelts and bike helmets, I think we learn as we go and safety is important but I don’t agree with the old saying “safety first.”
We live in a world obsessed with rules. It’s as if we think rules will prevent us from our eventual death.
As I write these sentences I can hear some of the “rule followers” responses back to me.
I’m chuckling.
I guess what I would ask our culture is “What are you so afraid of?”
Fear is and was used by folks to control others.
Fear is not a bad thing but it’s also not something we should base our lives on.
Nature is fearless.
Devastation is part of living.
If I look at my own life, at the things that drag me down, most are fears that in a worldly sense are warranted but in a spiritual world, show a lack of trust and a desire for safety over freedom.
I rebuke that notion.
I’m not safe.
I am going to die.
I will make mistakes.
Foolishness is part of the human condition.
Oh, and sometimes life just sucks.
I pray that 2024 is a year of adventure.
I pray, we as people, become truly fearless.
I ask God to open our eyes, our hearts and our minds to possibilities and rebuke predictability.
Culture will not like this.
The fear based love nothing more than a cozy blanket of comfort.
The fear based also seem to abide by the rule misery loves company.
We’ll, do not accompany them.
You and I know that’s not living that’s existing.
You and I only have a certain number of days on this planet.
I don’t want to spend mine hiding from life and waiting for someone to tell me what to do.
I’d rather make mistakes, skin my knees or fall flat on my face than exist under someone’s fear.
What will you do to take your 2024 to extreme’s?
