Uncertain Future? Now That’s Truly Living
Sponsored by CrisDental Eugene
I doubt there’s a person in the world right now who is feeling very certain about the future.
All eyes are on the United States as we prepare to elect, not just a new president, but, hopefully a more sustainable direction.
I hate uncertainty.
I sleep better when I know what the next year will bring.
I like to know I have funding for projects and my business.
But usually, certainty comes at the last minute or my direction is moved by God.
Is it just me or do you also feel a bit uncertain about 2025?
Kathy and I went to Bozeman to see a movie last night.
There was nothing good playing in Helena so we drove an hour, hung out in Bozeman and watched the movie “Conclave.”
They call it a thriller I would say it’s more of a mystery but it’s very, very good.
It’s about the process of electing a new pope and this film is filled with politics, lies, twists and turns….a lot like a regular day in America these days.
At one point the main character, a priest, uttered these words that struck me like a lightening bolt. I came home and googled “Uncertainty quotes in movie Conclave” and sure enough, it was there.
“If there was only certainty and no doubt, there would be no mystery and therefore no need for faith.”
Tuesday night we’ll probably have a pretty good idea who is going to lead our nation. Oh, the results maybe uncertain for several days, but I’m guessing we’ll see the trends.
But even so, half the country will still be uncertain about the future and the other half relieved, but hopeful.
Humans seem to crave a sense of certainty and yet we may end up in a car wreck, a bike accident (lol) or something else and everything can change.
I googled “Bible Verses Dealing with uncertainty” and one of my favorite rose to the top.
“For I know the plans I have for you, declares the LORD, plans for welfare and not for evil, to give you a future and a hope. Jeremiah 29:11”
I stopped going to a church decades ago. Yesterday I was invited to a men’s breakfast and decided to go.
It was a group discussion on God, the mysteries of life and uncertainty.
I haven’t heard a nudge from God like the one I’m about to tell you about in a long time.
I believe we are in a battle over good and evil.
But I heard God whisper don’t forget to love my people and that I love all of my people, no matter where they are on the political spectrum.
We must fight for what is right and speaking up is part of that fight.
But I need to also remind myself that I make mistakes, I’m wrong sometimes too and when it’s all said and done God keeps going back to that four letter word that’s so hard to live up to…Love.
