You’re Not The Only One
I heard a song by Aaron Lewis the other day that struck me.
When we lived in Oregon it really did feel like we were the only ones who would look around and say “WTF?”
What you discover when you cross the blue to red border is that in fact you are not alone nor are you out of your mind for questioning conventional and cultural “wisdom.”
In talking with my sister in Idaho many of their neighbors also came from blue to red for similar reasons.
To live around likeminded people is so refreshing.
You realize just how silenced you were, before, in order to get along.
There is a freedom that comes when you live in a safe place where kindness is no longer based on your party or platform but how you treat your fellow man.
You no longer worry about offending people because your neighbors understand how you respond to what is said is your choice and bullying people into submission is not only unacceptable it’s not put up with, at all.
Facebook doesn’t like when you post from YouTube to here. Their ‘Blue Hue” senses even a hint of red or purple and the algorithms kick into gear to throttle the perceived competition.
But here goes.
On this Friday we call “Black” I hope you see a bit of red and understand there truly are places where freedom is second and third only to God and country.
Take a minute to listen to the song.
Have a great day.
Am I the only one here tonight
Shakin' my head and thinkin' somethin' ain't right
Is it just me? Am I losin' my mind?
Am I standin' on the edge of the end of time?
Am I the only one? Tell me I'm not
Who thinks they're takin' all the good we got
And turnin' it bad, hell, I'll be damned
I think I'm turnin' into my old man
Am I the only one, willin' to bleed
Or take a bullet for bein' free
Screamin', "What the fuck" at my TV
For tellin' me, yeah, are you tellin' me?
That I'm the only one, willin' to fight
For my love of the red and white
And the blue, burnin' on the ground
Another statue comin' down in a town near you
Watchin' the threads of Old Glory come undone
Am I the only one not brainwashed?
Makin' my way through the land of the lost
Who still gives a shit and worries 'bout his kids
As they try to undo all the things he did?
Am I the only one who can't take no more
Screamin', "If you don't like it, there's the fuckin' door"
This ain't the freedom we've been fightin' for
It was somethin' more, yeah, it was somethin' more
Am I the only one, willin' to fight
For my love of the red and white
And the blue, burnin' on the ground
Another statue comin' down in a town near you
Watchin' the threads of Old Glory come undone
I'm not the only one
I can't be the only one
Am I the only one who quits singin' along
Every time they play a Springsteen song?
Am I the only one sittin' here
Still holdin' on, holdin' back my tears
For the ones who paid with the lives they gave
God bless the U.S.A
I'm not the only one, willin' to fight
For my love of the red and white
And the blue, burnin' on the ground
Another statue comin' down in a town near you
Watchin' the threads of Old Glory come undone
I'm not the only one
I can't be the only one
Hi Dee Cee. I will list 2 issues I am conservative on. 1. Take down Confederate flags and monuments. I grew up in the deep south and know these mean nostalgia for white supremacy. The Civil War was treason and teaching about it needs to be from that perspective. A conservative reveres the USA. 2. Strong national defense against enemies foreign and domestic. Those in the media who praise Putin and Orban are deniers of our Constitutional values of democracy and inclusion.
Where are you on these two issues?
Making the leap to leave Oregon after 55 years was the best life decision I ever made. Granted, having traveled most of western Europe and the south Pacific while in the military for most of the 1980s helped to open my eyes to the fact that Oregon is just one microcosm among hundreds of different ones.
I think most people who keep voting for the same nonsense and the same people in Oregon haven't done a lot of traveling. They think their way of life is the only way of life and by default, everyone else MUST share it or else be canceled.
Freedoms? If you want a taste of true freedom, go live in a so-called "red state" o…
