Madison Buffalo Jump State Park
Exploring Montana is so amazing. We end up on roads that go to nowhere, in farmers fields and today at a cool Saloon/Cafe called Woolzie’s Willow Creek Cafe in Willow Creek.
Willow Creek is six miles from the town of Three Forks.
Great food, cool atmosphere and great service.
Nothing much else in town but hey, when you have a saloon with live music on Sunday nights and great food, what else do you need?
Then we went looking for a little hike. Little is the way Kathy describes anything under 9 miles.
Madison Buffalo Jump State Park is just seven miles off Interstate 90.
There are trails all over the mountains.
This is rugged country where native American’s used to run buffalo off the cliffs as the way of hunting before they had horses.
Apparently the hunters dressed in wolves fur and would get the buffalo to stampede to their death over the cliffs.
Then the whole tribe would harvest the animals for food and hide.
Pretty cool huh.
Wonder what PETA would have to say about that? (kidding)
They’d probably hold a protest if they thought they could. LOL
The hike not easy and we are sweaty in need of a second share for the day but it was so beautiful.
Sunday is our rest day but rarely do we….rest.
A five mile hike in 79 degree’s is not a huge deal, especially when you see the things we saw.
On the way out we stopped at a roadside “Karen’s Cookie Wagon” and picked up a cookie. Wish I’d had two bucks on me instead of just one.
Saw only two other couples on the whole trail.
We will be going back.
Montana you just keep surprises us with your majestic views, rugged land and people who still believe you should work hard, mind your own business and if you don’t they’ll let you know.
Oh, almost forgot to tell you, as a resident of Montana your park fee is paid through your drivers registration and tourist have to pay. Novel idea huh?
