The new movie 45-Years is not a romantic movie in the typical sense of the word. This is real live, it’s harsh, honest and at time hard to watch.
The movie is about a couple, whose 45-the wedding anniversary is coming up, when the wife learns of a relationship her husband has been hiding, that happened five years before they got together.
Warning: The movie is slow. At times too slow but that’s one of the things we liked about it. This is like being a fly on the wall of someone’s life watching it unfold, sometimes painfully, but in a real way.
This is not a typical Hollywood film but instead a in-depth look at how difficult relationships can be and how one partners finally letting go of a secret that causes great pain can now inflict the other partner with a pain that will never go away.
As we got to the movie a guy a little older than me was standing outside and had just seen the movie. I asked what he thought? His answer was to turn up his nose.
This is a movie that takes a lot of thought and you have to want to watch it. You need to be the type of person who is not afraid to be uncomfortable. If you like a movie to titillate you this movie is not for you. But if you are in the mood to go to the depths of what it means to be human, take a chance; spend 90 minutes exploring a very difficult part of relationships.
