What does it mean to be a man?

Someone asked me on Facebook to be part of a survey. What does it mean to me, to be a man? So remember, this is to me, not to you. Some will see it differently because we all have different ideas, tastes, orientation, and beliefs. So, again, this is what I wrote back and thought it was worth sharing. She really made me think. If you have a different idea, let us know.

“To be a man means you are strong enough to compromise. To be a man means tears are not a sign of weakness but instead a willingness to allow your soul a way out of your body. To be a man is to put yourself last, God first, and other people in between.
Men aren’t as clean as women. Men don’t get their nails done or care too much about how their hair looks. Men focus their workouts on their upper bodies and women on their lower half.
Men are afraid to show the world how they feel, but, later in life, understand that feelings are part of being a man.
When men are young they want to be the best, when they mature they realize they are not and are okay with that.
My role in life, as a man, is to care for those around me without smothering them.
We think too much about sex and find nothing finer than a beautiful woman. And as we grow up, and that takes a long time for a real man, we understand that true beauty is found in commitment, relationship, and love.
April, I’m not sure if this answers your survey but thanks for giving me the chance to be a real man and at least think about it.”
