Watchdog for the people.
I met a guy at Winco Grocery Store tonight that blew me away. He was a regular guy. He saw me at the store and started talking with me about the Secretary of State’s office that I’m running for. I couldn’t believe how much this guy knew about the position. He said it is his favorite job in the state. He said, what I’ve said many times before, The Secretary of State is the watchdog for the people. I stood there looking at this guy with my jaw hanging to the ground. He said he thought the state should pay me 70 thousand dollars a year and give me a commission based on how much I save by auditing state agencies. That’s probably not the answer but I was so glad to hear that he had actually thought about it. This is not a judgement but he didn’t look like a guy who would pay attention to the Secretary of State’s office. In fact, a lot of people, a lot, don’t even know what the Secretary of State does. Not this guy. He knew it, He had thought about it and he had some interesting ideas. The Watchdog for the people, wow, what a stretch. It’s not like I haven’t spent my entire career as a journalist doing just that. Experience, yep, I’ve got it.
