Time To Get To The Red Meat, Death.
I think when we read we are to die to things in our lives we think of the bad stuff.
You know, the things I’m not supposed to write in a blog like this.
But what if the truly difficult dying process means dying to the good things in life?
What if the things I need to cut off are things like my opinions, being right, preferences, my will, approval or censure or even the approval and blame from some of you?
What if I have to die to the good things I want for my kids?
What if God says, “Rick, die to your inheritance, die to the things that are rightfully yours and then you will begin to see my kingdom?”
For too many years I’ve been following the cultural church by putting my focus on dying to the obvious issues in my life. Perhaps it is time to get to the red meat. Perhaps it’s time to get down to the nitty-gritty and stop playing Christian.
For some odd reason this idea gives me great comfort. I can’t fake it anymore I just can’t.
Walking with God is so much more than behavior modification.
If we really want to see God perhaps it’s time to die to some of the less obvious things in our lives.
“God does not comfort us to make us comfortable but to make us Comforters.”
Dr Jowett.
