The Aufderheide: Not a Ride for Wimps—–Click Here To View

The 4th of July turned out to be truly amazing. We didn’t go to a parade, we didn’t have a picnic, and we didn’t light off one single firework. None of those things are bad in fact all are a lot of fun. But Kathy and me just needed a day away, doing what we love to do, Cycle. We’ve heard people rave about The Aufderheide but until now, had never tried it. It was difficult and it was very, very hot. Grab a beer, a glass of wine or whatever you relax with and watch this video. Beware, you may want to buy a bike when you’re finished.

Having lived in Oakridge for 11yrs, we used to go up from the other direction, up the North Fork of the Williamette or as they say here in NC, Willa Met and it was a tuff drive, can't image on a bike. Cougar was a mud hole last time we were there, they were working on the dam. But it is one of the prettiest roads I've every been on. Memories: North Fork Willamette, swimming in July/Aug. becuase its to cold the rest of the year, that meadow on top, solitude, absolute beauty ....................

wow.... great report Rick. Even for people that are either not serious bikers, or just physically not able to make that ride, go by car and drive this road. Even better, if you go by car, go towards Westfir, take the back road along the river to climb the hill from the east side, and see that cabin and meadow about halfway to the McKenzie hwy. Truly one more fantastic drive through Oregon scenery.

Hasn't God been Good to Oregon.

Absolutely beautiful country! But I know how cold the McKenzie can be, so you must have really been hot!
