My Band Wagon has a Flat Tire
I’m not sure when it happened or the exact moment my Band Wagon lost traction and I’m not sure I care to fix the flat tire. In fact, I’m thinking of trading my Band Wagon in for a vehicle that get’s better gas mileage and actually get’s me some place.
Band Wagon’s had their purpose. They are big heavy vehicles we load up with ideas and thoughts. We make lots of stops to pick up people along the way but what I’m finding is the people climbing aboard are just getting a free ride, not actually helping to pay for the gas. I think we got so used to riding in our Band Wagons that we didn’t notice when the seats stopped filling up and only a few people were actually riding along.
For most of my life I’ve sat in the front seat, the drivers seat, steering the Band Wagon and creating the conversation. But now, as I look in the front seat, my old seat, I don’t see me steering anymore. Somewhere along the road I had a flat tire and turned the steering wheel over to someone else. His name is God. He doesn’t have a lot of use for Band Wagons. He doesn’t really care about the vehicle or the number of people riding along; He cares about the people and how they treat each other.
My temptation is to get back into the driver’s seat, push the gas pedal to the metal, and get this big bulky Band Wagon moving again. But the new driver keeps looking at me as if to say; “Rick, you don’t need to drive this thing anymore.”
As my life becomes simpler I think I’m ready to trade in the Band Wagon for something smaller, less roomy and with better gas mileage so I can actually get somewhere.
I’m looking for a Hybrid. Something that still allows me to be involved and will make a little noise but not so big that it takes over my life. I guess you could say my Band Wagon is going Green. I’m not sure what that means or how it looks but the Band Wagon has lost its purpose. I guess I’m waiting for the creator to show me a new model.
It’s time to get going. Another day is upon us. Has anyone seen my keys?
