Is He really the reason for the season?

IMG_0620All around me the world tumbles out of control. The message of Christmas has become do, do, do, buy, buy, buy and I wonder why I feel so disconnected. I’m just as disgusted with the cry to put Jesus back in the season as the reason when I’m not sure He ever had a place in that man-made-Macy’s Manger.

We are so apt to look for God in the sensational and forget He tends to live in the still, quiet moments in a world called understatement. I am not unhappy yet those who read these words will be tempted to label me this way. A better label, if one must be chosen might be dissatisfied.

As I look around, trying to find Christ, I see only make believe in what could be called a Disney Christmas Production. Some of the traditions that go along with the holiday are still so much fun. There’s nothing like a tree in the house this time of year. But as our world struggles to find meaning I’m afraid the Jesus we offer is no more than a character in a great play that’s message get’s lost in the hype and drama that has little to do with God.

God is found in a still, small voice. God is discovered in faith. God is found in the unseen and rarely arrives in a fanfare fit cover with a local news live shot at five. For those looking for Jesus in the season I’m afraid He’s really not the reason.

How sad you sound. I feel horrible that you don't think that Jesus is the reason. God sent his only son, Jesus, to die for us. We celebrate his birth as well as his resurrection. How could he not be the reason for all the excitement? Have you not seen new parents welcome their child into this world. Hugs, handshakes and well wishes go to all. This is their time to celebrate! How much more exciting to celebrate the birth of the one who can save us all! Please speak to your pastor or someone you feel you can confide in and find in yourself the reason for your feelings about this. God Bless You.
