Is God really a user or is it more complicated than that?
I remember saying-in my former life-“God put me in this place because this is where I have the greatest use.” I don’t buy into that line of thought anymore. Our purpose on earth is not to be “used.” The world likes to “use” us. God placed us here to glorify Him.
When I worked in television people would tell me how God was “Using” me in that job. I bought it. I thought to myself “what a great, high profile position for a Christian to be in.” Now, I don’t think that’s true.
God can do whatever He wants with me because He’s God. But I don’t see that as “using” me. When I think of God “using” me I wonder that it doesn’t place too much value or importance on me and take away from my real purpose to simply glorify Him.
Oswald Chambers reminded me of this today. He said;“ Jesus never estimated His life along the line of the greatest use.”
One more thought; maybe the reason we focus on being used is that it’s easier than actually living to simply glorify God?

RD!! This was good today. I believe we want to be approved of when we do something good, especially if it has to do with the Kingdom. Being used is such a great way to feel good about ourselves because Paul says in Tim that some tools in the house of god are used for noble purposes and some for ignoble…. I think we all hope to be a noble tool rather than an ignoble in the Fathers House. But are we in the Fathers House yet? If not then I think we are only here to glorify our Father in Heaven. Why do you have to put such challenging comments on your blog?:)
The basic message I get here is: it isn't that we should desire the approval of God since we cannot expect His approval (we are not worthy of His approval, for we are sinners), but rather that we should approve of God (glory through belief and worship). It that a way to describe it?
