Arise and eat.
My car has become a mini-research area, littered with clinic notes, papers, phone numbers of cancer clinics and books on surviving Prostate Cancer. A disease that puts a look on people’s face similar to seeing a deer in headlights has interrupted my life.
Yesterday it all became too much to handle. Something snapped as little pieces of hope blew out the window and choices seemed to narrow. Yes, this is what you want. Answers that lead you to a decision seem to be the goal but hope is a funny thing. It’s like a rock in the ocean that you stand on when everything around you is crashing. Hope is everything and then it quickly turns to nothing.
I picked up my Oswald Chambers “My Utmost for His Highest” this morning and there were the words I needed to climb back on the rock. It was the words the angel spoke to Elijah when he too found himself slipping into depression. The angel did not come to Elijah with a great dream or a word from God that changed everything. The angel told Elijah to do the most ordinary task, to eat.
I think we as humans forget how capable we are to sink into depression. A human being is very capable of depression otherwise there would be no capacity for exaltation.
So this morning, I will arise and eat, I will head to the gym, go to my speaking engagement, come home and work on a video and take the dogs for a walk. I’m seeking an ordinary day not a great vision from my God. Perhaps this depressed state of mind is preparing me for a moment or two of great exaltation. I don’t know. For now I’m just going to sip on my coffee, put the Old Fashioned Oatmeal on the stove and Eat.
